Exhibition: “Rudnik – My Legacy”
The “Vojislav Ilić” Cultural Centre in Rudnik has hosted an exhibition entitled “Rudnik – My Legacy”, on the occasion of August 6th – Miners’ Day. The exhibition consists of more than 50 photographs, enlarged and adapted for this special occasion, created in the sepia technique and dating from the 1952 – 1965 period. The photographs show the first post-war miners – members of the oldest families from Mt Rudnik, whose ancestors worked as miners there back in the early nineteenth’s century, during Karađorđe’s rule. The exhibition is based on the materials from the archives of Adam Miletić, whose father, Dragiša Miletić, was one of the first post-war miners and a person who took up photography as early as in 1937.
During the exhibition, a recognition was awarded – a special plaque for the oldest family of miners. The winner was the Hrnjaković family, with the total of 347 years of mining service and with 16 family members who were, or still are, employed in the mine (13 men and 3 women). The first miner in this family was employed in 1948.
