Exhibition “Rudarke“ (Women Miners)
Women are employed in mines as engineers, geologists, overseers… In honor of Miners’ Day, on the 6th of August in the “Vojislav Ilić“ community center in Rudnik an exhibition titled “Rudarke” was organized, a series of documentary photographs of women employed in Serbian mines, authored by photographer Marija Đoković. Similarly to their male colleagues, women are employed in all areas within mines, but do not take part in hard physical labour. The photographs were taken in the mine on the Rudnik mountain, in proximity to Gornji Milanovac, in Bor, in Senjski mine and in Resavica. The documentary photography series “Rudarke” earned a “Best Edit” award for the Serbian edition of the National Geographic Magazine as the best reportage among 40 editions of the National Geographic in the world. The exhibition will be open until the 16th of August.
