Divine Inspiration – The Miroslav Gospel
The exhibition “Divine Inspiration – the Miroslav Gospel” opened in the Cultural Center in Rudnik on September 8, and the visitors will be able to see it until September 15. The setting was presented by Veljko Topalovic, organizer, and Dragana Acimovic, art historian. Contango Director Ivan Komatina also addressed the exhibition. The Miroslav Gospel is the oldest preserved Serbian manuscript in Cyrillic, and it is considered the most important Serbian mobile cultural asset. Due to the beauty of its painted decorations, UNESCO included it among 120 most valuable documents of mankind. New research has revealed the subtle symbolism of the initials referring to the text which ensues it and artistic procedures which cannot be found in other Mediaeval books, as well as the fact that Serbian monks were among the most educated people on the European continent, Veljko Topalovic says. It seems that the Miroslav Gospel remained in Serbian hands by God’s providence. The book was kept in the possession of the Nemanjics, Obrenovics, Karadjordjevics. During World War I, it was transported across Albania, in the World War Two it was hidden buried under the altar of the Raca Monastery next to the Drina River… Three hundred world experts participated in the creation of the exhibition “Divine Inspiration – the Miroslav Gospel”. A total of 1,300,000 people around the world have seen the exhibition by now. The exhibition was organized by company Rudnik and company Contango.
