GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPOSIT
Polymetallic deposit mine “Rudnik”, Rudnik mountain and the mining town Rudnik are located in the central part of Serbia, i.e. in the south-west area of central Šumadija. Territorially, they belong to the municipality of Gornji Milanovac. Polymetallic deposit “Rudnik” is made up of many ore bodies (over 90), that, according to the current knowledge, occupy an area of 3 km in length and over 1.5 km in width. The deposit is characterised by high variability in size, volume and spatial position of ore bodies.
ORE MINING
Physical and mechanical characteristics of ore and accompanying rocks, shape and position of ore bodies in the area, size of ore bodies and metal content in the ore, led to the application of several mining methods, but almost exclusively with open stoping. In the last 20 years, the mine “Rudnik” almost exclusively uses the method of frontal excavation from top to bottom with open stopes (room and pillar method) for mining ore bodies. Using this method, from 1953 to the end of 2021, over 70% of total mined ore quantity from the mine “Rudnik” has been excavated, which amounts to 10,091,605 t.Since 1953 ending with 2021 total amount of excavated ore is 12,371,000 tons.
