Miners’ Day Celebrations in 2024
On the occasion of the Serbian Miners’ Day and the Open Door Day, the company Rudnik organized an award and recognition presentation ceremony the „Vojislav Ilić“ Rudnik Cultural Centre. Jubilee awards for 10, 20 and 40 years of work service and awards for the best miners and for the best women employees in the company in the previous year were presented. A recognition for the oldest mining family and diplomas and monetary awards for the employees’ children taking part in the campaign “My Parents Work in a Mine” were presented as well. The awards were presented by Aco Ilić, the managing director of Rudnik i flotacija Rudnik, Ivan Komatina, the director of „Contango“ and Dejan Kovaćević, the mayor of Gornji Milanovac.
The award for the best miners, named after Darko Vukobratović, was presented this year to Đorđe Rubaković, Nenad Radosavčević and Bojan Pavlović, whereas the award for the best woman employee, named „Dr Bosiljka Bosa Jovanović“ was presented to Jelena Dmitrović. The two best miners of the Rudnik company, namely Đorđe Rubaković and Nenad Radosavčević, received awards for the best miners of the Republic of Serbia at a central ceremony of the Miners’ Day in Bor, organized by the Independent Union of Serbian Metal Workers. On the occasion of the Serbian Miners’ Day, jubilee awards were presented to 16 workers in total. The Marković family received a special plaque for the Oldest Family of Miners. This family has a total work service of 389 years, 27 members of this family having been employed (or still being employed) as miners. The first miner in this family, Svetozar Marković, was employed on 13 August 1949.
It has been ten years since the „Vojislav Ilić“ Rudnik Cultural Centre was adapted, renovated and put into operation. In the past 10 years, the Centre has organized over 300 events which were free for the locals, employees, children from Rudnik and children from all over Serbia who visited this area during excursions and trips and for other domestic and foreign visitors and tourists. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the work of the „Vojislav Ilić“ Rudnik Cultural Centre and the Miners’ Day, August 6, the Association of Artists and Applied Artists of Gornji Milanovac staged and exhibition entitled “Getting Closer” (Približavanja). The „Vojislav Ilić“ Rudnik Cultural Centre also hosted an exhibition of works of the employees’ children taking part in a traditional competition entitled “My Parents Work in a Mine”.
On the occasion of the Serbian Miners’ Day, sports competitions were organized as well and so was a cooking competition entitled “The Best Stew of 2024.”.
